Jacob's Village Weekend

Jacob's Village Summer Weekend

Early Sunday morning, June 04, 2006, a thunder Shower rolled over head to begin the day. Fortunately, the clouds parted, uncovered the Sun and the wind blew the clouds Southeast for a feel-good, big blue sky day. Like Spring weekends are ending up, the Summer weekend calendar is mostly filled. There were many activities on the Jacob’s Village calendar scheduled on this day. Attending each ones Church is always a favorite thing to do, as with Mike and Wanda, they attend St. Agnes Catholic Church on the far Westside. They are picked up at 8:00am every Sunday morning like clock work unless otherwise notified or have a special event going on. On this day they were picked up at 9:30am because they were assigned to volunteer their help in the kitchen for cleanup detail during the St. Agnes Summer Social fried chicken dinner. Debbie usually spends weekends with her mother and attends Westwood General Baptist Church. When Scott does not attend St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in New Harmony with his parents, Donna Kay, Michael and everyone, a home coordinator or two at Jacob’s Village goes to a Bible study class at Westwood. They stay for the contemporary worship service at 10:30am, and then Debbie will catch a ride back to Jacob’s Village with them. For Michael and Scott, car shows have become a favorite event to attend. The 7th Annual BlackRiver Auto Fest was being held in Griffin, IN, 9:00am to 3:00pm. Also, The Next Step Dance Studio was presenting ‘Under the Big Top’ dance recital at 2:00pm. Remember the Next Step held a ‘Cheer & Tumbling Expo’ benefit for Jacob's Village April 22, 2006. In order to attend both events, we had to miss Sunday morning Church at WestWood. A lot of walking at the car show and a lot of sitting at the dance recital was to take place and Donna Kay cannot manage either of these traits all too well. It’s always nice when more residents can participate in activities, but on this day, Michael, Scott, and Joe were the only ones to spend Sunday in Posey County.

7th Annual Black River Auto Fest

They arrived for the BlackRiver Auto Fest about 10:30am, and classic autos from all eras of the past century were lined up on both sides of the Main Street in Griffin, IN. There were many different makes and models of cars and trucks on display. The sponsors and hosts were selling t-shirts, paraphernalia, burgers, hotdogs, and drinks under a couple of tents. It was a feel-good looking day for an outdoor event. The Doo Wop Shop with DJ John Botts was supplying the ‘50’s & 60’s music that was being played up and down the street. Many cars could have won top prize, but a 1954 Rolls Royce was a favorite.

The Jacob’s Village bunch left the auto show a little after one to make the 2:00pm Dance Recital at North Posey High School. They arrived there in plenty of time in hopes of being able to select their place before the 550 seat auditorium started filling up. Many people were in the lobby being entertained by Hadi Shrine Funster Clowns with their antics and balloon animals, while Carol Rodgers, coordinator of the show, greeted the Jacob’s Village bunch and showed them to their seats. The Next Step’s presentation of ‘Under the Big Top’ was a sell out for this Sunday matinee. They had just come up short of a sellout for their opening performance the night before. There were 50 acts in this show performed by children, ages ranging from 4 to 16. All kids performed to the 50 acts with appropriate music selections that were segmented into circus theme divisions. The Funster Clowns filled in throughout the show between acts when needed, always with what clowns do best, silly hi-jinx. An enjoyable 3 hours of good entertainment was had by all.
